Yahoo today launched Yahoo Sports for Apple TV 4, a new app that all allows users to watch their personalized sports news, highlights and live games completely free.

At launch, users can watch the most recent news and highlights from MLB, NHL, NBA, PGA and some of the top soccer leagues from around the world.

They will also get the coverage and in-depth analysis from the Yahoo Sports editorial team such as The Vertical with Woj, Instant Reactions, Sports Dash, and Power Rankings.

The app also gives access to Yahoo Sports’ full slate of  live streaming options including the MLB Free Game of the Day.

Just select your favorite teams through a simple one-time setup and from then on you’ll get a personalized sports playlist of top highlights from your teams and the top stories across sports.

Yahoo said they will be releasing new features for the app in the coming months.

The Yahoo Sports app for Apple TV 4 is available for download now through the Apple TV App Store.

NCAA announced that it will allow direct access to all the March Madness 2016 games across more platforms than ever before, including the new Apple TV. NCAA March Madness Live app will be available on the Apple TV App Store this Thursday, in time for the playoffs, which kick off March 15.

The app will come with an exclusive Apple TV feature that lets users watch two games simultaneously via a split screen. You’ll need to be a paying TV subscriber to use this feature.

Pay-tv subscribers will also have unlimited live streaming coverage and on-the-go access throughout the entire championship. NCAA March Madness Live will offer a temporary preview period giving users access to live game streaming before login is required.

Additional content will include “excitement” alerts for big moments throughout the tournament, as well as fan-favorite features including live game scoring, the official bracket and real-time game alerts for their favorite school. Fans will also have direct access to live radio broadcasts.

New for the 2016 NCAA March Madness Live:

• Platform expansion – This year’s product will expand to 12 platforms – more than ever before –including desktop, Amazon Fire tablets, Amazon Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, Android handset, Android tablet, Windows handset, Windows desktop, Apple TV, Apple Watch, Roku players and Roku TV models.  Exclusively for NCAA March Madness Live, fans watching via Apple TV can enjoy two live games at once with the Split Screen feature.

• GameCenter – The epicenter of NCAA March Madness Live has been re-engineered to provide fans with an immersive live video experience featuring improved navigation, Google Cast and Airplay support and more curated social content from the Coke Zero NCAA March Madness Social arena.

• Video on Demand – This year’s enhanced video on demand capabilities allows fans to access classic tournament moments, match-up analysis, game previews, top plays, featured videos and more.

• Capital One NCAA March Madness Bracket Challenge – This year, the official bracket game of March Madness – available via desktop, smartphones and tablets – is upgrading with new game features and more tools to help fans make their bracket picks as well as a chance to enter into a sweepstakes to attend the 2017 Final Four® in Phoenix.  In addition, this is the only bracket game to integrate access to the live video stream of every match-up during the tournament.

For the NCAA Final Four National Semifinals on Saturday, April 2, from Houston, NCAA March Madness Live will provide three distinct live video streams of both games to provide unprecedented viewing options for fans – live streaming of the traditional game coverage provided on TBS, along with “Team Stream by Bleacher Report” coverage or team-specific presentations offered via TNT and truTV.  This year’s NCAA Tournament will include the National Championship airing on TBS, the first time the championship has ever been televised on cable television.

NFL is planning to discontinue Game Revind service and replace it with a revamped Game Pass service that will be also available on Apple TV (among other platforms, like iOS, Android, Windows and XBOX ONE/360).

The Game Revind service (U.S. only) offers online streaming and on-demand NFL games. As of July 31, 2015 it will no longer be available. The same day NFL will launch an overhauled Game Pass service that will offer all 256 regular-season games on-demand (“available at the conclusion of the applicable game telecast”), live out-of-market preseason games as well as live press conferences and shows. Subscribers will also have an access to any game dating back to 2009.

It’s the first time you will be able to watch full NFL games directly on Apple TV. Currently, NFL only offers the NFL Now app for Apple TV, with on-demand game-day highlights, breaking news, analysis and video archives.

The new Game Pass service will be available in the United States, Bermuda, Antigua, the Bahamas, any U.S. territories, possessions and commonwealths (including American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands), and Mexico.

Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet.

It appears that the  international NFL Now service for Apple TV will continue to be available.

It seems like the Apple TV is suddenly in love with sports. 120 Sports becomes the third sports channel to find its way to the set top box this month, after Cricket Australia and Tennis Everywhere.

120 Sports is backed by the Sports Illustrated and brings live and on-demand content from various major leagues. The games include MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA Tour, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, NASCAR and other college leagues.

120 Sports is a first-of-its-kind network partnership involving multiple leagues and media properties created for the digital generation and the devices it uses most. In 120 Sports, today’s fans will have access to unauthenticated video programming through a new platform built to intuitively integrate video and data in ways they haven’t experienced before.

Though 120 Sports has its own mobile apps, Apple TV becomes the first streaming device to support the channel. Similar to its website, the contents are sorted into a Dashboard with ten hours of daily content, a Timeline of live and aired videos and a Catch up section of curated content.

And the best part is that the channel is completely free. No need of logging in with your cable subscription account not are there any membership costs. The 120 Sports app is available to users in the US right now, via an over-the-air update.

It’s just been a few days since Apple TV added Cricket Australia, that it’s picked up another sports channel. This time it’s the Tennis Channel Everywhere app, which is the Apple TV counterpart of Tennis Channel.

Tennis Channel Everywhere is a premiere live sports content App and desktop experience designed for iOS, Android and other devices, such as Apple TV, with internet access. It’s main features include 1) Live Streaming of Tennis Channel 2) Live Streaming of a new 24/7 subscription network called Tennis Channel Plus and 3) On-Demand viewing library featuring encores of full length matches as well as original programming.

Tennis Channel Everywhere brings both free and paid content. As expected, the free zone only let’s you access the highlights of some recent matches.

Whereas the premium will open doors to a huge library of on-demand content as well as live coverage of popular tennis games. Unlike others who like to hold back hallmark contents from Apple TV, Tennis Channel Everywhere subscribers will be able to enjoy even the Australian Open 2015  and the 2015 French Open in June.

The subscription will set you back $69.99/year and will of course, carry over to iPhone and iPad apps of the channel. On the other hand, subscribers of AT&T U-Verse, Cox, DISH, DirecTV, and Verizon FiOS will be able access the premium contents just via their cable accounts.

The channel is available with an over-the-air update and Apple TV users in the US should start seeing the Tennis Channel Everywhere icon now on their homescreens.

Cricket fans in Australia are going to love their Apple TVs a bit more thanks to the new Cricket Australia channel. It is the official channel of cricket.com.au, which is the highest governing body in the country for professional and amateur cricketing.

The channel on Apple TV will be bringing exclusive HD videos from the cricket world to the users, for free.

The content includes the latest news and features, highlights from everyday international matches played in Australia and also access to many historical cricket matches from the site’s archive.

Another set of contents includes behind the scenes coverage of matches, personal programmes with stars like Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist, and also Cricket skill tutorials from experts including George Bailey, Nathan Lyon and Ellyse Perry.

As you might’ve noticed, there is no mention about broadcasting live matches via the channel. Cricket Australia spokesperson Andrew Baber confirmed that they haven’t considered bringing live content to Apple TV just yet.

So if you are looking to follow the action in real-time, you still need to tune into Channel Nine or subscribe to Cricket Australia Live iOS app for $5/month or $30/year.

Now TV is Sky’s internet broadcasting service, available exclusively in the United Kingdom. Already available in over 50 different devices, the ‘complete Now TV channel’ finally makes its way to Apple TV.

The service is unique in the sense that it enables you to completely cut the cord, by not requiring a physical cable subscription to Sky’s Dish service. Instead you can just subscribe to their channel packs directly within the Apple TV, the packs being Sky Sports, Sky Entertainment (TV) and Sky Movies.

Just a  week after getting added to the WatchESPN iOS app, the SEC and Longhorn programmes are now available on the Apple TV channel too. Both streams deal with college sports and should enable students to follow their teams’ games via Apple TV.

SEC content on WatchESPN is a result of the quite recent partnership between SouthEastern Conference Network and ESPN, which will be covering over 1000 games each year in 21 of their sporting events. The content is distributed as SEC Network which is the same stream as their television channel and the SEC Network+ which features extra content.

SEC Network + — exclusively available on SECNetwork.com and via WatchESPN — will add live and on-demand coverage of more than 550 digital-exclusive sporting events to the SEC Network multi-screen output in the first year. Ranging across multiple sports from all member schools, SEC Network + events will all be high-quality, multi-camera productions – enabled by extensive new technological and production capabilities built out by ESPN and SEC schools in support of the SEC Network launch.

Longhorn Network has been around for about 4 years now and deals exclusively with broadcasts of University of Texas athletic meets.

The Longhorn Network features events from 20 different sports involving the Texas Longhorns athletics department, along with original and historical programming. The network also features academic and cultural content from the UT Austin campus.

However cord-cutters won’t be able to enjoy these programmes as both SEC and Longhorn require you to sign in via a supported cable subscription accounts.

We have been hearing about the NFL Now channel for Apple TV since the beginning of this month and two weeks back, the NFL Now app appeared on iOS devices. “A companion channel on the Apple TV [was] expected to launch later [that] day” and we have been waiting since. Though a bit late, the NFL Channel is finally out on Apple TV.

The channel sports three tabs namely NFL Now, Series and Highlights. The first one shows you the most popular and featured football videos while Series deals with NFL’s own shows; Highlights does exactly what it sounds like.

Football fans should be excited because the 2014-2015 NFL season is starting early next month. Via the app you will be able to watch match highlights, live events, press conferences, NFL exclusive shows, contents from NFL clubs and more.

You can also subscribe to the NFL Now Plus service for 2 dollars a month to gain access to in-game highlights, NFL Films and custom streams.

However, you won’t be able to cut the cord completely, because the channel doesn’t provide live streaming of NFL matches. DirecTV has announced that Sunday Ticket won’t be available on the NFL Now service, at least for this season.

Apple TV is getting overwhelmed with new channels. It’s hardly been a week since the FX Now and CNBC apps made it into Apple TV, when new rumors have emerged on the imminent launch of the NFL Now channel. The above picture was taken by an NFL employee and shows the channel in testing on an Apple TV.

The NFL Now service was launched earlier this year to bring a personalized library of on-demand news, features, highlights, live streaming of press conferences and other events, and more. It was announced that the service will be available on the web and on mobile devices, but this is the first time we are hearing about a dedicated Apple TV channel.

Here’s what the channel has to offer.

– Original Content Created for NFL Now: From the NFL Media studios in Los Angeles, NFL Now will create original content — news updates, shows, features, and more — designed specifically for digital platforms.

– Highlights of NFL Action:NFL Now will have extensive highlights of the best plays from NFL games, including a premium instant highlights service during the game window. Subscribers will be able to follow along with the action so they never miss a big play by their favorite team or fantasy players. After games end, relive the highlights from every game.

– Content Produced by NFL Clubs: Each of the NFL clubs is constantly producing content for their team-specific platforms from practice updates to locker room interviews and players features. The NFL Now stream provides a next-generation platform to deliver this team content to fans.

– NFL Films Content: With more than 100 million feet of film in its library and more than 110 Emmy Awards, NFL Films programming, including America’s Game, The Top 100, and the two-time Emmy-nominated series “A Football Life,” will be part of NFL Now.

– NFL.com & NFL Network Content: NFL Now will utilize select NFL.com and NFL Network video content to augment each fan’s NFL Now content stream.

– Live Events, Press Conferences, and Shows: From league and team press conferences, to the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction weekend and the yearly release of the NFL schedule, NFL Now will share important moments from across the NFL calendar.

The channel is expected to be released this month, even as early as next week, to be in time for this year’s 2014-2015 NFL season. Apart from Apple TV, the corresponding apps will also be available on iOS and other streaming devices like Roku. However the channel may not be your best option to enjoy football because it won’t be broadcasting live matches! Yeah, DirecTV has told that the Sunday Ticket will not make into the NFL Now service, at least for this season!
