Squirrels, the company behind the popular AirParrot and Reflector apps, has just released AirParrot Remote – a new app that allows you to control AirParrot 2 from your iPhone or iPad. It adds new features to AirParrot 2 and allows you to easily control what’s being mirrored or streamed from your computer to Apple TV, Chromecast and Reflector-enabled devices from the palm of your hand.

AirParrot Remote lets you stream media files from your computer, build playlists, begin presenting your computer screen, and even preview your computer’s desktop before mirroring to make sure you’re sharing the right content.

Added keyboard and mouse controls let you change between applications on your computer without touching it.

The main features include:

• Build Playlists: easily build playlists containing files found on your computer. You can queue files for continuous playback.
• Remote Control: in addition to controlling AirParrot 2, AirParrot Remote also allows you to control the keyboard and mouse of your computer.
• Live Previews: View your computer desktop on your phone or tablet before you begin mirroring.
• Easy Pairing: Connect AirParrot Remote to any computer on your network running AirParrot 2.
• Familiar Interface: The AirParrot Remote interface closely mirrors its desktop counterpart.

The app is available from the App Store for $6.99.

AirParrot Remote requires the AirParrot 2 application running on your computer. You can download AirParrot 2 from here.

Showtime Anytime debuted on Apple TV back in 2014, but until now its content was available only to those with a suported cable subscription. Starting today, Showtime is available as a standalone streaming service on Apple TV and iOS devices (as well as on Roku).

The subscription costs $10.99 per month and Showtime is currently offering a free 30-day trial for new customers.

You can subscribe to Showtime via an updated app on Apple TV or by downloading the Showtime app from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Once you sign up and create a Showtime account, you can use your account to watch the service across all supported devices, as well as online at www.showtime.com.

You can also get the Showtime service through your Hulu subscription and access the service through the Hulu app on Apple TV.

The launch of SHOWTIME through these new internet distributors coincides with the new seasons of the critically-acclaimed, hit series RAY DONOVAN, starring Liev Schreiber, and MASTERS OF SEX, starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, premiering this Sunday, July 12^th.

SHOWTIME is also available to subscribers via cable, DBS and telco providers.

The service is US only.

Great news for all Remote HD fans – the plugin is back on the Apple TV 2. Remote HD has been updated for 5.0.x compatibility and it’s now available in the Manage Extras menu via aTV Flash (black). For those who don’t have aTV Flash (black) installed, the plugin should be soon available to download from Remote HD website. Before the installation, you may want to check FireCore forums, as users report that there are some issues with the updated Remote HD plugin.

Remote HD is an Apple TV plugin and iOS app that lets you control your Apple TV from your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch and even brings your Apple TV′s display to your iDevice allowing you to control your little black box from far away, even with the TV turned off.
