Vevo today announced its new app for Apple TV 4. The app was re-written from the ground up and it brings instant access to over 160,000 HD videos and “exclusive original programming.”

You can now easily navigate through the Vevo app to see top videos by genre; search for individual artists and videos; and select new favorite artists. Playlists and favorites will sync seamlessly among devices.

You can also add or remove artists from your favorites list on your Apple TV. These changes are then instantly updated across platforms.

In an interview with VentureBeat, Vevo product manager Mark Hall said that with the new tvOS app, the goal is to give users a choice between a more interactive experience or a more passive one: the Spotlight section autoplays “so that a user can put down the remote and instantly enjoy a stream of music videos curated to their individual tastes.”

The new app is now available to download on the Apple TV App Store.

Apple has just released an update to the second and third generation Apple TV adding five new channels/apps: long-rumored Vevo TV, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Weather Channel and Smithsonian.

Vevo, Weather Channel and Smithsonian are free, while both Disney channels require a pay TV subscription with cable and satellite providers that have a deal with Disney (these include Comcast, Cox, AT&T U-verse, Charter, Optimum, Midcontinent Communications and Verizon FiOS; big players like Time Warner Cable, Dish or DirecTV currently don’t offer access to the Disney channels).

As always: if you are on jailbroken ATV2, stay away from this update for now if you don’t want to lose your jailbreak. It appears to be “just” an over-the-air content update – new apps show up automatically after rebooting – so no need to be worry about losing the jailbreak.

Disney Channel

According to a press release from Vevo, its new app is available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Brazil, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, and Poland. Other new apps are only available in the U.S.

I still remember the excitement when VEVO partnered with YouTube in 2009. Though stuffed with ads, we could enjoy high quality and latest music videos for free and legally. Something similar is going to happen soon as the Wall Street Journal confirms our earlier reports that VEVO for Apple TV is very near.

A lot has been happening in the Apple TV world recently. With HBO Go and WatchESPN making their way earlier this year and the recent rumors of Apple-Time Warner tie-up, we can be sure of more content filled Apple TV. On the other hand, VEVO hasn’t been idle either, with Xbox, Roku and mobile devices all getting their pieces in Q1. Reading through them, we can infer that VEVO for Apple TV is indeed coming.

The VEVO app is reported to be coming this week itself. Apple TV will be their first entry to televisions, with Samsung Smart TV next in the list.

We can expect 24 hours music streaming on demand. If past is any indication, the content will available for free and ad supported. But the possibility of a premium ads free subscription cannot be ignored either.

Yes VEVO, the popular video streaming service, is making their app for Apple TV. Similar to their already available app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, this one will stream content 24×7, on your demand. According to AdAge, this will be a standalone app like Hulu or YouTube and not a built-in service.

Though more details on the VEVO app is unavailable, some reports suggest that we could see it as early as this month. Only time will tell.
